Wines of Argentina
We have put together one of the most interesting ranges of Argentinean wines in the UK with both well-known names and up-and-coming boutique wineries. The wines of Argentina are amongst the most exciting in the wine world today and also provide excellent value for money.
Argentina benefits from the shelter of the Andes mountains which provides very favourable conditions for the production of quality wines. Due to the dryness diseases, rotting and funghi are also uncommon which means that the use of pesticides and other chemicals can be kept to a minimum and most wines are all but organic. For instance the whole Malma range will be certified organic from this year.
Something else that sets Argentina apart are the two grape varieties which are fast becoming signature wines - Torrontés for the whites and Malbec for the reds. These are wines with great character and individuality and when made properly create bold wines.
Bodega Norton may be the powerhouse of Argentinean wines and one of the pioneers in producing great wines at affordable wines, but they still make superb wines as evidenced by both the Reserva range and the Privada. Definitely worth trying, though we are equally impressed with the wines from boutique wineries such as Bodega Tapiz, Familia Marguery and the range of Malma wines from Patagonia in the South.
